| La Chapelle St Jacques and its statuary ensemble Push the door of St Jacques Chapel......and hold your breath: Monestiés' treasure is here! In this soothing and intimate place you will discover one of the jewels of the medieval art of Occitanie in an exceptional state of conservation. A face to face with 20 life size statues from the 15th century! Preserved at the heart of the St Jacques chapel, an ancient hospital on a secondary route to Santiago de Compostela, this group of 20 statues, classified as Historic Monuments, is made of painted limestone and shows the scenes from the Passion of Christ depicting the last three Stations of the Cross. Dating from the 15th century this work of art is unique in its composition and its wideness anticipates the Renaissance in its modernity. |
